Kiama Golfer Wins Yamaha Golf Cart at 2024 Handiskins National Championships

5 May 2024

2024 Handiskins Chipping Contest Champion Tom O'Rourke from Kiama Golf club gets the keys to his new cart from Yamaha's Wayne Trefoni

Tom O'Rourke, a 12-handicap golfer from Kiama Golf Club, defied his own expectations by winning a brand-new Yamaha golf cart at the Handiskins National Championships. O'Rourke's winning shot came in the Yamaha Chipping Contest, where he landed his second chip a mere 70.4cm from the hole.

The event, held at Palm Meadows Golf Club, saw 30 skilled golfers compete for the coveted prize. Each participant was granted two attempts to chip the ball from 50 meters away, with the closest to the pin taking home the Yamaha cart.

Despite his initial anxiety about the 50-meter distance, O'Rourke held his nerve and emerged victorious. He expressed his gratitude for the Handiskins concept, emphasizing the thrill of competing for money and the unique adrenaline rush it provides for weekend golfers.

While still deciding what to do with his new Yamaha golf cart, O'Rourke plans to share his triumph with family, friends, and fellow club members at Kiama Golf Club.

Congratulations Tom - you are a worthy Yamaha Chipping Competition Champion. And thanks to Yamaha for another terrific World Class Golf Cart as the prize we all want.
