August 2023 Handiskins Results
HighLowlight of the Month August 2023
Whilst the four finalists at Burleigh Golf Club this month played out a cracking final, Handiskins would like to acknowledge the passing of one of the club's iconic characters Paul 'Hawko' Hawkins, who sadly passed away in March this year.
Hawko was a good friend of the Handiskins management team, having participated in the very first Handiskins pilot event in 2012 at Sydney's Balgowlah Golf Club, and who helped us get off the ground in the early days with his feedback, enthusiasm and humour.
Paul was diagnosed with an aggressive stomach Cancer in early 2023, but was determined to be part of the Burleigh event this year, having just missed out on the finals in 2022. Unfortunately Paul's health deteriorated rapidly and he lost his battle surrounded by an enormous army of friend's and family from around the world. Paul was not a member of Burleigh for long but made a huge impact on members and staff of the club, endearing him to all who played with him with his enthusiasm for horse racing, AFL, Rugby, Fishing, surfing and of course Golf.
We will miss you mate - we are all better people for having known such a legend on and off the course. Handiskins is also more committed than ever to support the Challenge Foundation that supports families with children battling Cancer - an insidious disease that impacts us all.
