Parkes Golf Club 2020 Handiskins Championship
Well it is a Cinderella Story down at Parkes Golf Club after 78 year old Ian Phipps took out his first Handiskins Club Final at his third attempt in the last five years.
Despite this being his first Club Championship, Ian has gone on to greater things in this competition. Ian came second at his club final in 2016, and after learning all four club finalists win an invite to play in the the National Championships the following May, Ian through caution to the wind and flew to the Gold Coast to play alongside Handiskins finalists from around the country. After some blistering golf, Ian showed that his seniority on the golf course could win him the big events, and he came home as the 2017 Handiskins National Champion.
Ian Phipps of Parkes Golf Club celebrates being crowned the 2017 Handiskins National Champion as a spritely 75 year old.
On Saturday it was Ian who showed his experience once again pocketing $460 came out on top thanks to a $380 jackpot hole netting him a bulk of the cash after squaring a host of jackpot holes prior. Michael Thomas was next with $400 followed by Richard Harrison ($180) and 'nearest the pin' specialist Riall Harrison closing out the prizemoney with $160.
Well done guys, we hope to see you at the Handiskins National Championship at RACV Royal Pines in 2021 on the Gold Coast. And remember, you don't have to win the club final to win the National Championship... just ask Ian.
All four finalists received a Bridgestone Golf Cap and fought kit out for their share in $1200 of Club Vouchers.
National Championships Qualifications 2021
All four finalists have now also qualified for the national championship and are extended an invitation to contest Australasia's best Amateur golf championship at the 2021 Handiskins National Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort next May. Given the great spirit contesting today we are sure all four finalists would be able to claim the silverware and be crowned Handiskins National Champion. The 2021 event will be held from Wednesday 28th April – Sunday 2nd May 2021.
Non-qualifiers can still join the fun of the National Championships

Time for Anthony Riach to work on his short game?
After taking out the the nearest the pin challenge in the first round of qualifying, don't be surprised if you see Anthony Riach also spending more time around the Parkes Golf Club chipping greens in the coming months. Anthony has earned the the opportunity to contest the Yamaha Chipping competition at the 2021 Handiskins Championship Week. The winner will return to their club as the owner of a brand new Yamaha Golf Cart.
